How to Check if a Housing Society Is LDA Approved

A step-by-step check of the Lahore Development Authority's approved and illegal society lists, the NOC, the approved map and the revenue record.

Many Lahore buyers lose money on schemes that were advertised well but never approved. Checking approval takes under an hour and should happen before any token is paid. This guide shows the order of checks.
Why approval matters
An approved scheme has passed planning and technical review, so roads, plots and open spaces follow a map the authority has seen. In an unapproved scheme you may struggle to get utilities, build legally, transfer the plot or resell later. The LDA has sealed unapproved schemes in the past.
Step 1: Check the LDA lists
The LDA publishes lists of approved schemes and of illegal or unapproved schemes on its official website. Search for the exact scheme name, the phase and the developer. News outlets also reproduce older lists, but those can be outdated, so use the authority's current list as the source.
Step 2: Ask for the approval letter or NOC
Ask the developer for the LDA approval or no objection certificate (NOC) and the approved layout map. Check that:
- the scheme name, area and developer match
- the approval covers the phase or block your plot is in
- the date is valid and not for a different, smaller area
Then confirm the letter with the issuing office rather than trusting a photocopy.
Step 3: Match the plot to the approved map
The plot you are offered should appear on the approved map, not only on a brochure. Visit the site and see whether the roads and plot markings exist on the ground.
Step 4: Check the land record
Ask for the mouza and khasra numbers and compare them with the revenue record. Our fard guide explains how to get the record. If the developer does not own or has not acquired the land, the approved map means little.
Step 5: Look for warnings
- The scheme is not on the approved list but "approval is in process"
- Files are sold for far more land than the developer owns
- The developer pushes you to pay before showing documents
- Regularisation promises: do not rely on a regularisation scheme before checking its current status with the authority
Step 6: Get it checked by a lawyer
For a large purchase, a lawyer can check the file in a day. This small fee protects a much larger payment. Also read how to verify property documents in Lahore.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I find the list of illegal housing societies in Lahore?
On the LDA's official website. News articles reproduce older versions, so confirm on the authority's site.
Is a society with a private NOC safe?
Only if the NOC is genuine, covers your plot's phase and is confirmed with the issuing office.
Can I buy in an unapproved society?
You can, but you take on risk of no utilities, no building approval and difficult resale. Many buyers avoid it.
What if the society is "under process"?
Treat it as unapproved until the authority confirms approval in writing.
